I received lovely gifts this Christmas. All with beautiful sentiments of their own. But this pot has given me a lot to ponder and contemplate. It is a beautiful, simple hand made pot. The tag attached is the potters card- “Sincere Pottery.“ Inside the card is this:

“The word SINCERE is made up of two latin words. SIN meaning without and CERE meaning wax. Potters in antiquity would make their wares with this word to distinguish themselves from disreputable vendors who used wax to fill cracks and voids in imperfect vessels. In use, the wax would melt out, rendering the pottery useless. Well-crafted work was therefore “sincere.”

I read this once. Then I went back to it, again and again since Christmas Eve. It struck a chord with me. There is something in that description which made me think of my life and those people who I value most in my life. The common thread in all of them would be “sincere.” Those who I value, with whom I have been able to open my heart and with whom I feel at peace, are those who have exemplified that word. They are “sincere.” In order to be “sincere” we must speak our truths, and those would be the truths which come from our hearts. It is in those truths that we find safety and strength. Not in the perfection or lack of imperfections but in the beauty of the truth. Simply stated, it is that which inevitably connects us at our hearts. Be “sincere” and life will be “sincere” with you.
